Cross Country Term 3
This term we did cross country. I was in the 11 and 10 year old girls race. I have always hated cross country but I never knew I could do so well! The year 5's and 6's has been training everyday! That's what we had to do to get to that stage. For my next steps if I could go back, I would try pushing myself a little bit harder. I guess I did push myself a little bit because in the end, I came 3rd in the 11 year old girls! I have never done so well before! I guess all that training paid off. And I did end up running around the block every night I could a few days after for about a week because I got into Coastal Cluster Cross Country! I was so proud of myself.
PRIDE - Term 3 Value
This term I have shown pride in many things. One of the things I have shown pride in this term is my art inquiry. We had an art gallery and my family bought my artwork. I created a mobile, it is named 'The Magnificent Mandala Mobile'. I am so proud of it, have a look!
My Journey of Art Term 3
This term for inquiry we have been creating art! In the last week we have had an art gallery! We also opted into whatever art style we want! It's all super exciting and so hard to tell it all! That's why all you need to do is watch the video below!

Descriptive Writing Term 3
For the last few weeks we have been using descriptive language in our writing. This is a sample of my descriptive work...

Little Garden Descriptive Writing
The lime green stalk of the flower stood alone waiting for the flower to bloom. Hot pink coloured petals made the room glow as they started to move slightly. The petals started to open and flutter down towards the stalk.
The yellow nectar in the centre of the flower looks like mini roses waiting to be smelt. The bright pink flower almost looked like it was popping open like kids popping candy. The graceful flower finally finished it’s beautiful blooming as I leaned over to smell the centre of the elegant neon pink and yellow flower.
I shuffled over and looked at another flower, this gorgeous flower had a sky blue sort of tone to it. I waited a while until it finally started to come to life. It opened and I could see a dark navy blue centre. Whenever I see a flower ready to bloom, I get excited because you never know what it's going to look like on the inside. Like if there is a new chocolate flavour, you never know what it's going to taste like. It may taste sweet and delightful or powerfully disgusting.
Different shades of blue brightens up the whole bouquet of flowers resting together peacefully. I've seen many different colours today and I've experienced how beautiful flowers bloom. I wish to come back next spring and watch it all again.
We have also been going to writing workshops throughout the week. I opted into the idioms workshop, here is a photo of my workshop work...

Eco warriors #habitatheroesnz
This year we have been learning about our local wetland areas. We have been concerned about the health of these areas. An area that has been damaged by huge waves from a storm is Clifton Beach. We're entering this compition because we really want to help the local environment and public areas. Please help us make our plan come to life!

Emily and I have been working in a group. We have decided to have a clean up day at Clifton Beach. We will send out some pamphlets for the day. In the pamphlets we will tell the public about the activities to make the day fun for everyone! Lately there has been some major damage to Clifton Beach, causing half the camping ground to disappear. There will be plenty of debris for us to tidy up! Come join us, we will be sure to keep you updated!

Island Of The Blue Dolphins
Island of the blue Dolphins
By Scott O'Dell
Winner of the Newbery Medal
The Island looks like a dolphin lying on its side. Some Russians/Aleuts came on a ship to hunt for otters on the island.
We did a few reading tasks throughout the time we have been reading this book, one of the tasks were about what fake name we would have (because on the island they have two names, a secret name and a fake name that everybody knows you by). My fake name would be Ruby because my gem stone is the Ruby gem.

Term 2 - Fractions
Fractions, fractions, fractions! Recently in maths we have been learning about fractions. The teachers ran many different fractions workshops and each time I went to one, I had to get my passport stamped or signed. One workshop that I attended was about finding fractions of sets.

Term 2 - Reading
This term I have been reading a range of different texts. I have been learning to clarify the words I don't understand when I read. My favourite text that I have read is called Giving The Ocean A Voice and it was about cleaning up the ocean and doing it up a bit.
Term 2 - Maths
Earlier in the term we were learning about multiplication and division. A strategy I learnt was to use my place value when adding all the numbers together at the end of a problem if I need to. This strategy helps me to add a big amount of numbers together with ease.https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1rAQ2Moklo19nZ939DWZaQg1D1f-rWwZWwXhRfp_TnZ0

Term 2 - Persuasive Writing
We have been learning to write persuasive texts. To do this, we had to use our words to convince someone to believe something. Here is an example of my writing. I tried to persuade The Hawkes Bay Community to stop some of the people that are dumping rubbish, litter and nappies.
Dear Hawkes Bay Community,
I am writing to you because I think that dumping rubbish, litter and nappies is certainly not acceptable at all. Dumping rubbish anywhere causes a major impact on the environment and is very cruel and disgusting.
Can't you see that if certain types of animals, for example; birds and different insects can eat the litter and rubbish (even though they are in their very own habitat) they could get very sick, they could choke and probably even end up dying. This is a very wrong act and it should definitely never end up happening to an innocent animal’s habitat. This needs to stop immediately.
I don't know about you, but I think heaps of people love fish! And also all the fish and chip shops are going great, but it won't be for long. You see, the litter, rubbish, nappies etc, can all end up in the rivers and oceans. This can happen by dumping rubbish on land but very close to the river and could fall in, but some horrible, horrible people actually just dump it in the rivers and oceans. This causes fish to die and the food-chain to stop.
And just remember that this is my opinion, but I'm sure everyone else thinks that this NEEDS to stop, straight away. And this is why I'm sure everyone needs to hear this message and spread it out to others too, because this is certainly not okay and no-one should ever dump rubbish, nappies and litter ever.
Term 2 - Netball
In netball, we have been learning to shoot, to balance, to chest pass and to throw and catch the ball. The skill that I have improved on the most is shooting, to learn this skill I had to take my time and measure the ball directly with the net, then I had to candy cane the ball into the hoop.

Read aloud
This term we read a novel called 'The Bold Ship Phenomenal' by Sarah Johnson. It was about a boy called Malachi who on the way to school one day, he was walking along the beach to get to school and something caught his eye. It was a bottle and not just any bottle, a magic mottle with something inside. In most movies there would be like a map or a letter or something like that, but not in this one. Inside was a... Ship! Yes, a big, pirate looking ship, and wait, there's more! The next day Malachi looked in the bottle and it was in a completely different position. Yep, the Pirates inside the bottle, on the boat moved, so did the ship. It was like, a WHOLE different universe.

Metaphors
Metaphors
WALT: use metaphors to make our writing more descriptive.
We took part in a “Get NZ Writing” project. We wrote on postcards and had to describe ourselves using metaphors. We sent our postcards to Hukanui School in Hamilton. They sent postcards back to us.
Here are some metaphors from my poem.
Sophie Beale is the Opera house because she loves to perform.
When she looks in the mirror she sees an angel with a golden, glowing halo.

Flat people
We have been reading this novel called Flat Stanley. It's about a young boy who go squished by a pinboard, and became flat. Ever sines then, he became "Flat Stanley". I love this book because at the end of it we got to do this AWESOME art with it, and today I'm going to explain it with you. So first of all, we had to draw an outline of a 2d body. Then we took a picture of ourselves and we had to cut out the face and glue it on the body, and then we had to colour the outline in. After all that we had to write a personal description about our flat person (which is us) and how to look after them. You're probably wondering why we needed to explain how to look after us right? Well because we are going to mail them to someone. My flat person has arrived at the persons house already, safe and sound. Now all they need to do, is take pics with my flat person whenever they do something.
